King Parrots

It's been awhile since I've thrown a parrot up on the blog. These ones were taken yesterday in some bad light so the colours aren't as vibrant as normal. The top one is a female and the bottom is a male.

I haven't seen this couple around for awhile, so it was good to catch up with them again.

  • You have a lot of pretty birds stopping by ... do you have a feeder up?

  • No I just pour some sunflower seeds on the railing from time to time.

I don't do it too often as the birds get dependent on this with subsequent generations relying on humans rather than nature for food.

There's been a possum eating these too as well as my one time herb garden. I'd love to take a photo of him but I think a bright flash on a nocturnal animal's eyes would not be good. And if he decides to scurry off, half blinded, there's a forty foot drop.

  • Beautiful birds... How large are they, 6 to 8 inches long? No wild parrots in the States that I know of, though in S. Cal. or S. Florida, anything is possible.

  • These ones are about 12 inches long. About the size of a skinny crow.
