Here's the thing. I do read the hours-long efforts. I even go to the comment page, a pattern I've observed in others on other blogs. Then. . . nothing. There's nothing to say at all. In fact, saying something would be a mistake. But when there's something that clearly calls out for an opening comment, at the very least. . .Then! Then I can get going.
It's a real dilemma for people, I do know, to write their hearts out and watch it just sit there. Doubts about merit, all sorts of things creep in. People who have what it takes to create have to put themselves at risk in order ot do it. If they don't acquire a thick hide, they burn out. So I try to make up for it when I can.
Re: the lurking without commenting thing - it's really been buggin me lately, that I read some neat shit, and then have nothing to add, Like now. I really have nothing to add to the conversation yet I feel I need to at least acknowledge that yes, the hours-long pieces are read and appreciated...see I've added nothing, I've diminished the heady air, like an old farting man at a dinner party.

See....... I spend a couple of hours writing something up and get nothing. Write a couple of throwaway lines and am graced by J Alva Scruggs esq.

Scruggs esq. Yeah, I suppose people actually just read the darned thing...... I do with your pages.
I'm on a few mailing lists and once commented to a guy that writing a reply would be like a 6year old with a crayon doing a critique on the Mona Lisa.
Winston, copy away although it isn't mine and the university where the gif resides, may hold copyright and decide to sue your ass of at a later date.
