Chopper Madness
This is one of my favourite photos from the internet. I got it way back in about '96 from these guys I think. Google was still a research project at Stanford, Netscape was the browser of choice and 56k via a 166MMX Pentium was a Ferarri.
The guys at Chunk 666 are still out there with their mad rides, scanned from emulsion photographs.

One late afternoon in June/July of 1970, in a stolen VW bus, with a drumkit, two guitars and four large teenagers (one wanted by the FBI),I drove through the one horse berg of "Big Apple" Iowa (we were staying off of the large interstate roads to avoid authorities). There seemed to be some natural thing that was competing with our drug induced hullucinations. It was this long, tall drink of water, a skinny white overalled 7 footer on a homemade device that appeared to be a bicycle welded on top of another bicycle so that he appeared to be riding atop of the corn, as light as air. We, a bus load of eastern city hippies stopped and confronted the taciturn fellow, who at least allowed us to admire his handywork (though hardly saying a word). Who knows whom appeared weirder to whom, but I havn't seen another such a device until you provided this link.
Holy flashback! Batman!

Oh Oh, although I remember a good laugh at the name of the one horse town "Big Apple" (after 35 years), I can't seem to find any reference to it. Maybe a local name. Or.... ?

There's a movie script there for sure!
I'm going to tell my friends about that one. Classic!
Sometimes throwing something obscure in this medium brings forth some astonishing results. It makes all the effort worthwhile.
